Story Time: As you can see from my sig, i collect the 03-04 Exquisite stuff. IMO it's this eras T206, 52 Topps, 86 Fleer, etc. Obviously not quite there yet, but in time I think it will be. The cards are already hard to find and even when you do find them, a lot of the time they are stashed away in player or set PCs and unavailable.
My first shoutout has to go to ljandkg. As everyone knows he has an incredible KG 21/xx collection, including the 03-04 Exquisite base gold 21/25. I have been asking (probably borderline pestering) him to sell it to me for 2-3 years....with no luck, ha. But, being the great guy that he is, he informed of one that he found being sold via Yahoo Taiwan auctions. This was on October 16th. I was stoked because KG is one of the bigger names in the set and has a huge following, so his rare cards are tough to acquire.
I live in Texas. The link that ljandkg provided me was all in Taiwanese or Mandarin (not exactly sure what language it was in). Huge problem #1. So I'm trying to use all sorts of translation sites and things to email or get a hold of the seller in someway. Nothing works. I inform ljandkg of this to see if he can help in any way and he puts me in contact with a buddy of his from Taiwan.
His screen name is KG9779 on the HK message boards. He is my other big shoutout! Through our back and forths it turns out the seller is only willing to sell to someone from Taiwan through the Taiwan auction site. Terrible news for me since I don't speak his language, don't live anywhere near Taiwan, and apparently he won't accept PayPal. This is where KG9779 comes in like a superhero! He agrees to basically be the middle man for the whole transaction.
He does all the communicating and interpreting for me and then buys the card, gets it shipped to himself, and then ships it to me. This all takes a little over 3 months because the seller doesn't exactly respond in the quickest manner to any messages. Finally, yesterday I receive the card in the mail and it looks great! It was well worth the wait.
So, the Aussie links the Texan to the Taiwanese auction. Then another guy from Taiwan gets the card and mails it to me in the States. Multiple countries, multiple message boards, and multiple transactions leads to the following....
Now that is what i love about this hobby. Collectors from every corner of the world helping each other and the transactions all go smoothly. ljandkg & KG9779 are both A+ members and i wanted to let everyone know that. That will conclude story time for the evening and i hope everyone has a great morning/day/night wherever you may be!
