So with a kid, another on the way, saving for a house, power bills and other costs, there's not a lot of money to go towards my card addiction. But after doing a bit of overtime, I put $70 aside and picked up a box of 2008-09 Upper Deck MVP. My first ever break was a 2013-14 Panini Hoops which gave me very little so I was hoping for more.
The courier arrived and handed over a package in a small thin courier bag, obviously without any bubble-wrap. I opened it up and few pieces of polystyrene fell out revealing the Upper Deck MVP box. I thought it was strange that there was no protection but ignored that to hurry up and get stuck into it. After opening up about 8 packets, I noticed that the cards of one side of the box had damaged corners! And sure enough, there was an obvious knock on the outside of the box.
I wasn't sure if I should contact the (local NZ) supplier and complain or carry on. Since I had already opened a quarter of the box, and they were all sitting there waiting to be opened, i thought bugger it I'll just open the rest.
And I'm glad I did!
The base cards look pretty sweet I reckon. The Ultimate Victory Inserts are nice too, K Love and Roy Hibbert Rookie were amongst the good ones. And I picked up about 10 Kobe MVP Inserts as well.
The next are the parallels that I got. Cuttino Mobley Silver Script, Dwight Howard Silver Script, Roy Hibbert Rookie Card Silver Script (I'm a Pacers fan, so I like it), Jason Richardson Gold Script, Kobe Bryant MVP Insert White Border and an Elton Brand GU Jersey card.
And then finally .... in the second-to-last pack ....
The card that made having a whole lot of damaged cards worth it ....
Though it may not be worth much it's worth a lot to me .....
A Michael Jordan Silver Script! Not an on-card auto but it's definitely up there in my collection now.
Although I didn't ask for anything, the supplier gave me a $20 credit (that's about $3.20 in Aussie dollars) so I'll get a couple of Prizm packs with it. The Jordan Silver Script ended up being on the damaged side of the box, but the knock isn't overly obvious to the naked-eye, so I'll take it. Yeah it's crap that I ended up with damaged cards, but I'm so happy that I didn't try and send the cards back for a replacement!
Thanks for taking the time to look at the cards, and also if you ended up reading my story!
