For those who don't know, a "White Whale" is that card that you have been chasing forever, or that you really needed to complete that set or for your player collection! It maybe a $2 card or $200 card, lets see them!

Here's mine, its from my J.R. Smith collection, every JR collector out there knows that his Bowman Chrome gold refractor is almost impossible to get, and when one does pop up, there are a lot of competitors for it!

My second one is his UD Immaculate Star Rookie, not sure of the print run, but this took me long enough to find!

In my experience, though there are many rare, hard to get Allen Iverson cards, these two babies had got me waiting for several years to find and capture. (I only got back into collecting, like 3 years ago.)

My whitewhale used to be a 95'96 Stockton Ultra All NBA Team! :) After chasing and giving up for a few years.. I finally found about 10 in a few minutes after joining up the cyber trading world! The card is not even worth a scan on this thread ;)
 
I dont really have a white whale per say, like that ive been chasing for years or anything. one card that will qualify is a Patrick Ewing patch for my PC...those things are just bloody rare! waited a year for one to pop up on ebay.
 
I understand that white whale is 1/1 printplate or 1/1 auto/jsy... in the old days, it's considered the card which is extremely rare to find.. didn't know it is the card to complete the set or the one has to chase long time...

For me, the cards i have are easy to find and easy to collect..
No White Whale with me..

A white whale doesnt have to be a 1/1 etc. Its a term used too much in the hobby by collectors naming new product. Mine is a white whale as I know its out there. I've been looking for years and years but yet to site one off the port side to harpoon. Even then hauling that sucker in is going to be hard.
 
I don't think I have a white whale yet. There isn't a card I have been searching for long enough to qualify as one.

Woops misread the post.
My white whale would be a Shaq auto. Shaq was the reason i first got into collecting and I would love to own one of his sigs.
 
Well this isn't too much of a white whale but i picked this amethyst reflections card up nearly 2 years ago not long after I started collecting again.

Ever since I decided I wanted one of the gold ones /50. I missed getting one about 6 mths ago after 18 mths of looking. Then amazingly picked up the jersey numbered version last month for next to nothing!

Had you asked me a few months ago my most wanted card would be a Nash Auto/Logoman, however I'm starting to appreciate how much I would love to add this card to my collection.

These dont go cheap, they usually sell for about $350US.

I thought a "white whale" was something you didnt have, and was ULTRA hard to get..... (either they're too expensive, or they rarely show up....)

Since I'm a new-age collector (2004+) mine is the 2004-05 Topps Chrome Chromographs Autographs Refractors #/7 (Devin Harris). I pick this card simply because it's DAMN hard to get, I've NEVER seen one, and I want one...

I have another which is the 2004-05 Black Diamond Black Parallel #1/1. If it's gonna cost me about $60AU for the Green (#/25) I'd hate to see what the 1/1 would cost....
 
my ultimate card i would like to get would be the 04-05 UD exquisite dwight howard rc patch auto /99. also i would love to have an mj fleer rc. who wouldnt want those two cards? well theyre the ones i want the most anyways...
 
i have a few "white whale" cards i have been searching for.............
2 spree's : 93-94 skybox schick #47 and a 94-95 skybox center stage #cs7 , i have been looking for these 2 for over 2 years now, have never seen a 93-94 schick but have missed out on several 94-95 center stage cards on ebay..........all have gone over $20u.s:shock:

my other is a michael jordan 04-05 sweet shot "sweet spot" auto, have never seen one anywhere but would love to get my hands on one, have been looking for over a year now, it is 1 of only 5 that i need to complete the entire sweet spot set:(
 
Mine would be any Isaiah Rider Autographics card... as I have finally learned they exist, at least for one season.... I want an Isaiah NBA auto almost as much if not more than a 1/1!
 
My white whale is the Hakeem Olajuwon 2 colour patch from the 05-06 Ultimate Collection patch set (sorry don't have a pic of the card to show). This is the last card i need to complete the set. I have seen a few single colour Olajuwon patch cards on ebay (not interested in the single colour patch), but yet to see the 2 colour patch, and i have been looking pretty hard.
