the only reason he stood a chance against green last fight was due to the hydration issues he had at that time.. he fought in NZ and was heavily dehidrated, he shouldnt have fought 3 months after he was told by doctors to steer clear of training for atleast 12 months.. ohh and did i mention he had to drop about 8 kilos in about a month to fight him..
Green was clearly under prepared, it would be all over in 30 seconds if there was a rematch..

I can't say I watched the whole fight, but from the snippet I saw of the "knock-out", it looked to me like Wood thrust his knee/thigh forward as Mundine was going down, which may or MAY NOT have contributed to the knockout. And this was brought to my attention by another person who only has a casual interest in boxing, BEFORE I even knew the result. So you can call me biassed all you want, and maybe be right. But if someone with no interest in the fight think he used his knee/thigh, thats harder to explain... Anyway, plenty of good/great fighters have met the canvas at some stage, no shame in it happening to Mundine, if it was legitimate...

I'll also say I doubt the result would get too many replies if Mundine had knocked Wood out in the 5th. Most who DID comment would probably be quick to say something along the lines of: "So, what? He knocked out a reality TV star!" But as soon as he fails, the wolves come out! And lets not act like Green knocked out "legend and future hall of famer" Roy Jones Jr... He knocked out a sack of potatoes who was here to hug a koala and get a paycheck...

what do you mean "The wolves come out" when he looses. The wolves have been out on this idiot for ever and a day. Who has he fought? What has he done to declare himself so great. The guy fights absolute no names and then goes and compares himself to Mayweather. The same idiot who declared himself the greatest pivot ever to play rugby league. the guy is a joke, a side show. Every time Mundine loses, (well, thats TWICE, isn't it?) you get pageafter page on site over site, of people denigrating him. Its not so bad on here, I'll say. But on yahoo, for example, you had people calling him a black c***, f***ing abo, muslim piece of s***, telling him to do the world a favour and go hang himself; I mean, where does this hate come from? He's outspoken, sure! And yeah, he calls himself "The Man" but so what? Its a nickname! In a full contact, confrontational sport, self-promotion and trash talking aren't such a bad thing, when at least your opponent has the opportunity to knock you out.
I laugh when people seem to think its ok for Glenn McGrath to say some of the horrible thing he did to batsman, coz "sledging is part of the game", when the batsmen he's sledging can't do a physical thing about to shutting him up. But then in BOXING where his opponent has the oportunity to knock him unconcious if he crosses the line for them, people complain about Mundine being a loud-mouth! And as for this fight, most of the trash-talking I heard was coming from Woods corner. As for the Mayweather comparison, I've never HEARD that from Mundine. He may have said it, but all I've heard is he wants to fight bigger names in the US, and eventually work his way UP to fighting Pac or Mayweather.
I also like following Darchinyan, Katsidis, did like Tzyu, but I do like the showman aspect of watching Mundine, and hope he does make it to America for some bigger fights, win or lose...

All the talk of being great, dominate, superior this, superior that, I am the best, the greatest etc etc etc. Now I could understand if he has fought the best, but he hasnt. He talks the almighty talk and has nothing to back it up. He has fought mostly no name nobodies, beats up on them and thinks he is something. So when he goes and gets himself knocked out by a reality tv show winner of course most people are going to jump up and down with joy. This guy has made his own bed.

I will start by saying, that i am a huge boxing fan. I watch fights 2-3 times a week. I find myself getting up and god knows what hour just to catch the european fights on sunday morning. So commenting not just as a casual fan, but as an avid supporter of the sport both locally and abroad i am still delighted he got starched by Garth "the hack who wrestled his way to the contender title" Wood. I used to follow Mundine prior to his second win over Sam Soliman, but like most true boxing supporters, you can only take so much of the bullcrap. He has faced two geniune world champions (and i hestiate to call Sven "Hands of pillow" Ottke a genuine World Champ). He has never beaten a world champion to take his title either. I must admitt, at first i thought even with his loud mouth and carrying on, that Mundine might actually be serious about winning titles and taking on the world, but after taking on local hacks and beating down on cab drivers from south america for over 90% of his career you have to look back and see how much of a joke it all really was. He makes an absolute killing fighting bums over here, because of the local idiots who fork out $50 to watch him fight on PPV. He is definately a smart business man, and i wouldn't be suprised at all if this latest effort won't land him a very hyped up and well paying re-match.
Now, to Garth Wood. Don't be fooled by his win... Put him in with a geniune top 10 fighter and he will get demolished (or maybe even dq'd). While i am happy he handed Mundine a defeat, i wouldn't even be suprised if it was staged. Now im not against people making money, but to rip off fans is not acceptable, and to promote Garth Wood as a world beater right now, would be a joke.
Ok.. to Danny Green and the rest. It's quite funny how that everytime Mundine gets mentioned.. so does Green. And again, whilst i was more of a Green fan earlier in his Career, after his retirement and return, i have struggled to like him. He too has been taking on old timers and hacks for years. His best win in my opinion was back when he beat Eric Lucas. Eric Lucas? you say, yes.. Eric Lucas. He might not have been and absolute world beater, but Lucas Always comes to fight and has more heart then Phar Lap. He is very hittable, but when Green broke him down, it was the best i had seen him. Most recently Green has had mixed results. Roy Jones Jr. Well.. it was like beating up your grandad, and although it got him huge exposure (and LOADS) of hate from the U.S, it wasn't really a masterfull display. He then went on to beat an inflated Siaca (who beat mundine) and then had that debarcle with Paul Briggs. His best win sine his return was definatley his last one agaisnt Flores, but even that came harder than most people expeceted. I hope he chases some live opponents, but don't be suprised if he goes back to beating up inflated SMW's and Old men.
Now someone above did mention getting behind some of our REAL fighters and i couldn't agree more. Vic Darchinyan and Michael Katsidis have been willing to AND mixing it with the best in the world. Not only do they fight the best, but they do it in style, both being exciting punchers with the ability for highlight reel knockouts. We really need to get behind these guys as they make Australian boxing known on the world stage for the right reasons.
