NSW State of Origin Team named Tonight.....here's mine

Just for a bit of public humiliation , I thought I would spend some time this morning trying to pick my squad.

Kurt Gidley (capt),
Jarryd Hayne,

(they'll pick Hayne and Gidley at 1 & 2. IMO Gidley fullback in defence, Hayne has poor positional play, Hayne fullback in attack, ....bloody hard to Leave at Dugan though....1 more season maybe)


Matt Cooper, (Josh Morris probably in for Cooper in reality)
Brett Morris,
Jamie Lyon,

Terry Campese,
(tough one here..I kinda like Barret, we won the last game with him and noddy......show a bit of loyalty.....and Soward can just keep playing club footy, Lyon much better for NSW in centres)

Brett Kimmorley,

Michael Ennis,
(I'm a Farah fan but Ennis was in SOO3 and in better form and not cary elbow injury)

Michael Weyman,
Josh Perry,

Lyon is useless, he cant defend and will be a liability (pls dont pick him NSW Selectors) - Tahu is extremely solid.

Hindmarsh needs to be in the team (yes i'm a huge Eels fan) but what more can the guy do to get a jersey.

Luke Lewis can be left out, i think there are others that are better.

Anyone but Kimorely in Half back, i dont care who but NSW needs to start thinking of the Future, noddy is too slow.

Not sure about Campese, i prefer a Barrat or Anasta but both are not in form.

I like Campese but i don think the selectors do. I dont like the idea of Lyon in at 5/8, but i would most definately play him at centre. Trent Barrett is a ridiculous idea and only ever gets picked on reputation. Yesterday was his first DECENT game for the club and i consider him an absolute lemon.
Bird and Gallen need to be there somewhere.
If they were happy to play Hayne on the wing i most certainly would pick Dugan at fullback over Gidley. This will not happen as it seems he is the golden boy of NSW and can do no wrong.
If Luke Douglas and Kade Snowden played for ANYONE except the Sharks they would be on auto-select.

The halves is where we will struggle......again, we do need a specialist 5/8 and i would lean towards Campese. He struggles to play second fiddle and i would love to see him given the "take over the game" licence. I wouldnt be too mad if Soward got picked, as really what else can he do?

Mate surprisingly you have a real Cronulla flavour happening there.....

Snowden probably before Douglas but your right both wouldn't look out of place in Origin, Bird also a chance but just too one dimensional for my liking to play in the halves, he's really a back rower and we have them in over abundance already. Couldn't even fit Gallen / Laffranchi / Stewart or Minichiello in...

I'm starting to think Gallen instead of Learoyd-Lahrs now, it was I just couldn't find a starting spot for him and I think he's best when he has heaps of minutes, probably The House to the bench then.......

I know you have some issues with Barrett but given the naffies that play outside him, it is hard for him to stand out. He's solid every week and it's not because of him that the Sharks will have the least wins of any team at the end of the season.

Dugan is too young imo and Idris still is yet to prove himself...Give him another city v country and then decide....Carney should have been in there somewhere and Lyon should have been in the centres....By the looks of it Bellamy was not happy of the side....Agree it is a terrible side

Spot on, Hindmarsh should be captn, watmough is too small & Lyon cant defend. QLD must be over the moon.

I don't think that there is a problem with the quality of any of the players available for selection, maybe NSW should be looking for new selectors. Maybe they didn't know there is no salary cap

It's not bad, well not as bad as some are making out, from the opinions on here out of 17 there seems only a couple of contentious positions....granted they are key positions.

I'm starting to lean more towards Idris 18th man and bringing in another forward / Gallen or Hindmarsh even. Lewis could cover backs at a pinch.

Yes, I'd rather a specialist 5/8 even Gidley over Lyons but if they're going to insist on Lyons there then so be it, maybe I would 18th man Idris and bring in Bird who could cover the halves and back row. However they are still the Blues and I ain't going to bag them.

..........unless we loose.
