Don't worry! Just answered it myself!!

I remembered seeing a thread on hobbykings awhile back about these and a guy saying what they were and that its just finest or chrome card thats been soaked in hot water and had all the paper/cardboard dissolved from the top of the card!!!

I just tried it and it worked!!!

I remembered I asked Patrick about these a while back and got this response :

I just recently bought a huge huge lot of cards, proofs and uncut sheets. There were several of these blank proofs in the lot...very cool, unique item. The front looks just the normal card would look, but the back is the negative image of the player in silver siloute...pretty cool. I thought I would throw them out there and see how they do...I kept all the L J's of course ha ha...

Good luck as I did have a few Grant Hill's which I have listed. There might be a couple more, haven't had enough time to go through this huge lot.

If it's the case that he is basically bull****ting to make a $$ then that is very disappointing. And worthy of getting booted from here.
 
It certainly doesn't seem to quite make sense having "very rare" 07-08 Finest cards out, what, about 2 weeks after the release...bought as part of a huge lot? I'm not buying it, figuratively or literally!

If this isn't deserving of being canned I really don't know what is......stating that these are extremely rare is means enough in itself.

Cool cooking skills rhys, definitely worth the post as I wasn't aware of them...not that I would buy them, but I was definitely curious when I saw the 93 Finest cards with the blank backs! :thumbsup:
 
is it just me or did anyone else kind of enjoy the noise that was made when he was rubbing the paper off the chrome? if i can reproduce that noise myself that i think that is worth it alone
 
Definitely sounds like a scam if they're being sold under false pretenses. Can this be done to any Topps Finest/Bowman card from the sets in the ebay listing? Makes them as rare as base cards if so.

I'd wager that any card which has a plastic top surface over a cardboard backing can have this done to it. It is simply breaking down the manufacturing process and utilizing the fact that paper goes soggy while plastic does not.

I was thinking the same thing Cal...if you have time to ruin bb cards Rhys, you can at least do the dishes first man...in my house that would get you a one week ban from ozcards.

Pretty sure someone jumped on here as a new member saying the same thing about Pat, that he'd ripped them off?

Don't know the background to it, but thought if you didnt know you should be aware of it.


With these cards linked up above, they look REALLY different to the one from Rhys' vid. I mean, the image is mirrored, like it's not the same silver finish that comes from removing the white backing....
