I think more interesting would be the list of brownlow winners who played in a losing GF side
Some people are never happy
Marcus Whelan from Collingwood was the first to win a Brownlow and play in a losing Grand Final, in 1939.
Don Cordner, who won the 1st Brownlow Medal after the 2nd World War, played in losing Grand Final in 1946, after winning the Brownlow Medal.
Ian Stewart was on the list of Premiership and Brownlow Medalists in the same year, but he first was member of this list, after the Saints lost in 1965, when he won his 1st Medal.
In the 1970's, North Melbourne won 2nd flags, but Keith Greig (1974) and Malcolm Blight (1978) joined this list of players to win Brownlows and lose a Grand Final in the same year.
Peter Moore, who won 2 Brownlow medals with 2 teams (Collingwood in 1979 and Melbourne in 1984), also lost a Grand Final after winning the Brownlow at the start of week in 1979.
The Rat, John Platten, lost the 1987 Grand Final after picking up the Brownlow with Tony Lockett (the Coleman-Brownlow Medalist for all of those on the Brown Brownlow Bandwagon)
Interestingly, the Healy Brothers managed to win a Brownlow (Gerard Healy) and captain a losing Grand Final (Greg Healy) between them in 1988.
In the last 20 years, its happened 6 times, after it took 60 years to happen 7 times
1989-Paul Couch (Geelong)
1997-Robert Harvey (Saint Kilda)
2000-Shane Woewodin (Melbourne)
2003-Nathan Buckley (Collingwood; managed to win a Norm Smith Medal tho)
2005-Ben Cousins (WCE)
2006-Adam Goodes (Sydney)
History Lesson 2 finished.
