2022 Official NRL Thread (Spoilers/Rumours/Game Results/Discussions etc.)

Perth has a local comp (est 1948) and some of their teams are older than 11/16 NRL teams.

New time zone for tv. New eyeballs on tv.
New fans. Esp expat Eastwrn states, kiwis, English and South Africans.
Many juniors that will have a direct pathway in to NRL.
New sponsors. Esp mining corps.
Actually shores up national television marketing exposure.
The WA govt are basically begging for a team and backing the bid.
Local appetite for NRL as seen at other NRL games played in Perth.

Before anyone says like Perth Western Reds failed, they were lumbered with costs and entered at a time when Super League rooted the game.

In fact Perth would be true expansion. The Dolphins are consolidation tbh. Still good though.

And no one ever thought Melbourne would be much chop and look at them now.

Curtis Rona

Royce Hunt at Sharkies.

Plus the West Coast Pirates play SG Ball and WA reps kick arse in junior rep carnival comps in the Affiliated States Championship.

Clutching at straws with those names mate 🤣🤣. Could make a better team with current Fijian players . Everyone’s gonna have an opinion on it and that’s what makes it good discussion but Perth have always had mines and plenty of money . If they weren’t going to get fully behind them before I don’t see it . Probably find those games get filled with fifo workers from NSW and Qld .
It’s just a cash grab anyway , when 8 -10 teams every year have no chance of making a dent in the finals why would you add another ?
It’s not like it’s 2 teams and you’ll get a extra game . More to fill in during origin time with the byes .
I’m not sure why everyone wants another team anyway to be honest . Even before Covid most grounds were getting rubbish crowds . It’s a real odd one to me personally?

The Western Reds also drew pretty reasonable crowds. From what I can recall they were averaging more per home ground than some Sydney clubs during the Super League period. IMO they didn't really fail they were simply a victim of the Super League war.

In regards to expansion I don't really buy into this we don't have enough player talent, give more pathways and the player pool will increase with more players staying in the game longer.

I also don't care that we have some stronger teams than others, this is the same in every single competitive sport ever played. The opportunities are there for every club to improve and become a power house, take the Panthers for example they look set to shine brightly for a while yet they used to be the easy beats week in week out and even Cronulla has won a comp. Fairy tales can come true.

pretty much right on Ross, on all topics.
If a team like the reds were to come back, they would definetly have the pool of players, abid a little time to establish themselves.
a lot of talent goes to the AFL because there is no pathway there for them to progress, as the player scouts dont look there.
Im happy that cronulla and penrith have finally evolved.
Everything is a business these days, thtas how the Nrl have made it.

It wasn't until I logged on here that I found out that Norm had passed. Not unexpected but the loss of such a large piece of our Rugby League history is never easy to read.

I'm glad he passes as an immortal because it would be the wrong discussion to be having right now as we should should be simply acknowledging that the great man was a legend and an immortal.

RIP Norm.

I'm changing my avatar back to my old one in his honour.

very nice sign of respect Ross, yes he died last night.
he and his wife said back in 2010 at the 2010 acps show he would not be doing any more shows, I belive that esp flew up to his place to arrange the signing of the 2014 legend cards.
Not a great deal of those players left now.
The ultimate legend of St George.

I was just going through the rugby league cards on eBay to see if there was anything I could afford of Norm Proven. The one card that caught my eye was the duel auto with Arthur. Then I seen the price.$3999.00.Very sad when it comes to this. But to make things worse,it was no.36.Sorry Dave.I think if it was a fair price Dave ,you would be all over this.Very sad time for all the dragons supporter,s,and in general, supporters of the greatest game of all.😥

I remember I pulled the Provan Summons non auto card years ago and it says 1 of 500 or something and for years I thought I had the number 1.Turns out all 500 say the same thing 🤣

From memory that one doesn’t have the redemption and is being sold by Craig Kernaghan
