I bought a box of these and whilst I love the phantom cards the issues with printing certainly let this release down. My box came with a list of known errors in the numbering of the cards and I sent the dealer another list of errors found. Was very disappointing.

I never believe promos. I guess its a toss up as there were a number of super-hero types around in the early 1930's - in fact Lee Falk himself created Mandrake before the Phantom and Mandrake was super-heroish (possible that's not a word ). Enough of that- my sealed box of Phantom Gallery 2 arrived today along with a list of errors in numbering- at least Dave's post above let me know what to expect. They even got the label on the box wrong (one label says Gallery Series 3, not 2!!!) It seems amazing than Phantom series 1 (Dynamic) had no numbering errors while series 2 (Dynamic) has 4 numbering errors and Phantom Gallery had two of one number. You'd think they would eliminate that in a reboot!!! Will post what I get from the box tomorrow- hopefully the cards will impress.

OK- here we go!! The binder purchased from FREW arrived this AM- very timely. The box is now open. I found one more printing error on the box which reads '36 cards per box' when it should read '36 packs per box'. The other printing errors can be viewed at

The binder and common card sets are excellent- the art is colourful, new and well presented. The binder and cards are of very high quality. Furthermore, the story begun in Phantom Gallery 1 cards is continued and completed. I loved the mixing of new and old artwork from a variety of past and current Phantom artists. Having been forewarned of the printing errors, I found that I could live with them!!

Now- collation. I received two complete sets and a third set missing 14 cards- that was great. Now to the not so great. The collation of inset cards was abysmal- I received 37 of the plain (not embossed) GEM cards (4 complete sets, 13 doubles), none of the 3 card embossed Velluto GEM cards and did not get the one/2 box Sy Barry card. The odds would suggest that one should get at least some of the Velluto GEM cards. Furthermore, of the GEM cards I did get, a number are poorly cut with portions of adjacent cards attached.

My overall opinion was nice set- but...... I feel cheated by the lack of even 1 Velluto card GEM card and will now have to chase these as well as the Barry cards. Given what I actually got, the cost of the box was too high.

As a result of the above I 1) have spare common cards and spare 6 card GEM set cards (and sets) to trade for any of the 3 Velluto GEMS or the Sy Barry GEMS. I am also happy to purchase the latter.

I'd like to hear how others who purchased boxes do.

is there a series 1 album.

Yes, there is a series 1 album David- basically a black intrepid album with a Phantom Gallery promo sheet shoved down the front. Not nearly as impressive as the new one.

Hi David-

I did 2 400dpi scans, one as a jpeg, the other is a PDF. The latter is better, The JPEG is attached here, if you want I can email you the PDF version which I don't think attaches here.
