Don't think we can solve the problem as a whole Richard short of the people who make and sell them for profit being prosecuted (and I am not suggesting that would be easy either). Just saying that better information would lead to a reduction of dodgy sales. Wouldn't be at all surprised if there are others who frequent this site that have been caught out as you were. I have a similar story to tell. There will be others.I think the idea has some merit. I spent alot for a dragons set and i definitely wouldn't have paid anywhere near that if i had known they weren't legit, although it probably won't solve the problem as a whole as there are lots of people who aren't on this website i guess
That would be a good idea as I would like to tinker with making patch or even game worn jersey cards probably never happen but would like to tryI think most of collectors on this site have some custom made or bootleg cards in the PC. I have purchased a few of these cards myself on here. I think it's one thing to have these cards for personal use or to include in your team's private collection, and another to produce them with the sole intent to profit from them by withholding information as to the authenticity of the cards or the background.
Some of us have seen some threads where members have done their own designs which look fantastic. Those members have even done a few up for other members who have asked. I don't see a real issue with these kinds of transactions as they are for personal or private collections.
The frustrating thing is seeing these cards for sale on places like Ebay, but without any indication that the cards were not officially endorsed by the NRL and are not officially released cards. Sellers appear to rely on the "Limited Edition" tag to reel in the bidders. If these sellers were to clearly indicate that the cards were not manufactured or released in any official capacity (not that this would actually happen) then the bidders would have nothing to complain about. I guess the issue here is that not all sellers can be aware of the background of the cards and there are no controls placed around the production and dissemination of them.
As a suggestion, why don't we create a thread here on this site where members can post pics and discuss custom cards so that everyone can see what is out there and what to look out for. As I see it, the real issue is not having the information and getting caught out. If all the information on custom and bootleg cards are made available then I'm sure it would be harder for some people to sell them. To be clear I am not talking about a thread to sell/purchase/request bootleg cards - just to show what has been put out there already.
Your thoughts?
I don't believe how everyone has jumped on Peter's case saying things like - "He has lost credibility in my eyes" and then DK Trading liking the post.
DK Likes the post that states selling Bootleg cards is wrong but he has purchased a set of them. People talk about it being such a huge rip off but DK was selling the One Community cards back a few years ago for $25 a card when I could buy them from Wangy for $8 a set. Is that not severe profiteering?
Peter would be the most honest and trustworthy guy on eBay. If he thought he was ripping someone off he would rather give the person the cards for nothing.
It is not a rip off to sell cards for what they cost and then let the market decide the value.
He had purchased the cards and therefore can sell them on just like any card. He listed for them for cost price - no rip off profiteering unlike the "5 star" cards that crai5150 was selling for $18 each.
or this guy http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/A-REYNOL...216?pt=AU_NRL_Memorabilia&hash=item4d24e380d0 selling them for $5 each (that's $135 for the set versus Peter's $10 for the set.
I think that Dave's cards a absolutely fantastic and would like one of everything he has produced. He is very talented. I would be very interested in talking to him if he would like to contact me.
A few people have also got into crai5150 or 'MyKnights' but please if you are going to give someone a serve at least list a reason or it doesn't mean anything. Grumpsta, why is he dodgy? batboy, why is he a germ?
I am not agreeing or disagreeing with you but would prefer to see examples if you are going to attack someone.
Anyway that is my rant. Look forward to the replies.
Ive known this for years nobody can do anything about it its a shameNot that I have the time or could be bothered.
example 1 (And believe me, There are many....)
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2007-NRL..._Rugby_League_Merchandise&hash=item3f3bc437d4
Now, EVERY NRL COLLECTOR and his family pets know that Dave from Adelaide is nuts for number 036 cards (God bless him)
And I know (As I have, And seen from others) If a 036 card pops up... We let him know!! - It's the decent thing to do...
As you can see the underbidder is our beloved Crai5150... Seen here bidding to $100 for a card (of 350) you can PAY OVERS for at $60-$70 every other day of the week... It's also a card (I would bet my last Grandparent on) that he already has, For a team he doesn't support...
So Why?
Both the Winning Bidder and under bidder have been around long enough to have dealt with each other quite a bit, And I am sure both of them are well aware of who each other are.
I have been collecting the dirt on this guy for a while, I was tired of watching him get away with it again and again - Then getting on here and pretend he is no one and doesn't know anything... He has been around a long, long time and knows much more than he lets on....
This guy systematically goes around bidding up honest collectors for a few different reasons
(That I can put it down to):
1: Ensuring his own collection (Which I believe is quite big) stays at a value he is happy with in a declining market
2: No one who is anyone will trade with him FACT!!
3: He gets a sick sense of satisfaction in making collectors (mentioned above) Pay overs for something he doesn't want.
Now where I am from, If you act like a germ, And conduct yourself in this sort of manner... You are, in fact a germ!!
The fact he is well aware of this thread and hasn't bothered to defend himself backs it up....
I guarantee all of us have been schilled up by this guy for whatever reasons, And the ones listed above at some point... I have link after link of him doing it, to different bidders on different stuff for as far back as you like.
BEWARE, If you are bidding against him (And you will) 5***r (almost 7000 fb) , You will probably win your item, AND you will probably pay more for it than it's worth or than you wanted to....
Maybe outing his "Activities" here, Making the honest collector more aware of what he's up to will put an end to his schill bidding....
I guess we'll see... But you've been warned
Don't get me started Roger all your information is false you should've done some homework i feel for Peter right now he is a top bloke but its people like you are making it worse for him saying things like you have !I don't believe how everyone has jumped on Peter's case saying things like - "He has lost credibility in my eyes" and then DK Trading liking the post.
