We lost on Friday cos we had too many changes from the winning team in the prelims....
losing symonds was a huge blow.... not picking White (another hitter) cost us big time in the last 5 overs where we needed some hitting..... Watson just coming back from injury is a bit harsh on the guy to play a final... Hogg is rubbish.....
but at the same time, if it wasnt for ponting & hayden.... would we be in the finals ?

We played like morons in the first final. What was Clarke doing? Not diving for his ground to start the rot! 
We were something like 4/220 after 40 overs the last 10 overs killed us. I don't like our middle batting order atm. Clarke, Hodge, Hussey, Watson - it looks too fragile. None of those guys apart from Hussey can make hundreds regularly. At least with Symonds if he got out early he went for quick runs. Clarke, Hodge always take their time to settle and just kills the surge our top 3 usually gives us and so when they get out cheaply they wasted some balls as well. Australia has some tinkering to do before the world cup now that Symonds is likely to miss some games.

Our team has a lot of problems. I think Aussies main problem is the bowling. If I'm not correct (and I often aren't!) They have shipped a whole lotta runs recently. There was the 340-330 Oz-NZ game, followed by Poms getting 290 and thumping Oz, followed by NZ getting 290 (and we shoulda had 300+ again) and losing cos of Punter and Hodge , followed by the poms chasing down 250 in the final after being 15-3.
It's possible that OZ does bat first and get 300 but if I were the poms I'd bat first and back myself to do the same.
Also last year in NZ, OZ scored 330 and won by 5 runs and then scored 330 again and lost with an over to spare....then there was the SA 440 run chase as well.
I have no doubt Australia has the batting to win the WC, I think bowling is their weakness.

I agree mate - our bowling has been shocking a few times but then again there are games where we have bowled the opposition out for 150-200 but those games tend to get forgotten cos we usually blast past the totals with the bat. The reason oppositions usually get up to 300 is because our fielding was sloppy that day. We dropped a few catches (Mcgrath) in the first final. We also dropped Vincent twice the day the kiwis made 290. We dropped Gibbs early on when South Africa made 400 plus. I wouldn't say our bowlers are bad but our fielding should be better. I dunno if you are aware mate but the Kiwis always have been respected by the Aussies cos they always try to win and push us harder than any other teams who usually turn up with a negative mindset.. They have had more success against us than other countries (not recently though)

Agreed....it's always felt like they've been forcing Watson to be an international player instead of letting him develop naturally. And it was always going to be a tough ask for Hogg to come in and play after just 1 preliminary game....why do that any way when White was in reasonable form anyway??
Our problem lies with our spinning, we cant expect to win a world cup with Clarke and Hogg can we? I mean yeh Clarke is a pretty good bat but to have him bowl 7 or 8 overs a is a joke. Hogg is all we have unfortunantly and he is just crap lol.

That's why Symo is such a big loss...his bowling variety was more than handy. The belief is though that the pitches in the West Indies won't be that useful for the spinners.
