Massive news yesterday seeing this and im suprised nobody has posted about this yet... realistically Lakers weren't gonna do any damage even if they did scrape into the playoffs but this is not good news for them at all... the NBA would be spewing.

im not a kobe fan but i respect the way he goes about it and am disappointed to see this has happened. he was playing at an incredible level over the second half of the season.

what are everybody's thoughts?

Did you see his big post on facebook? One upside is that i he decides to come back and go out on his own terms he has a uear or so to clear up all his niggling injuries.

For those that didnt see Kobe's Facebook rant... here it is:

This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I'm supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that
was. Maybe this is how my book
ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me...Then again maybe not! It's 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I'm wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what's the purpose of social media if I won't bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.
"If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive always loved that quote. Thats "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer.
I know it's a long post but I'm Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Much Love Always.

When people think they are great, they stumble.

I like how Kobe plays this game and how he plays through injuries but I just realized something, I wonder if he actually have thanked God for all the gifts he received in life.

This is devastating!
I really don't know what to say about the whole thing. I just really hope he will heal and come back strong next year. Until then i wish the best for my Lakers.

Ahaha nothing funnier than when athletes start thanking god for everything. Ray Lewis did it after superbowl nevermind all of his fellow players or coaches, was all down to him and god >_<

ahh the kobe lebron thing again... you can hobble right after torn achilles - try walking with cramps  the last line of that meme should read "and sits out 6 to 9 months"

anyway...

this is so sad for basketball. i spent 6 hours yesterday googling hoping it was just an overreaction and they will say he is ok :( never like to see one of the greats go down like that. i hope he comes back.

Good bye Dwight Howard that is all.

Wait no it isn't, sorry Steve Nash you wont win that ring you have thus far been denied, that is all.

Wait no it isn't, sorry kobe you won't get any where close to being number 1 on the points total or that MJ tying 6th ring.

Can't see how this is funny? :ermm: I believe in God and I believe I wouldn't be able to do a lot without him. How is that funny????

I think Rhys was saying that some athletes in a team game only thank God, don't accredit anything to their 1 million hours of hard work, blood sweat and tears, teammates, coach, life coach, team staff, PA, parents etc etc.
Some athletes do start with God and then go to teammates though!

For the record, I'm atheist and can't stand all that stuff during game interviews and stuff but each to their own life and I haven't made it to the highest level of anything so I can't really speak from experience!

Bad news for Lakers and Kobe fans...I freaking hate Mike "How does that play go again?" D'antoni. Kobe already had a twisted ankle from the Hawks game, tried to rush back and Mike just keeps playing him 48 minutes a game. Guess which foot he twisted his ankle on and which one he tore his Achilles tendon? Same one. Yes, Kobe wants to be in the game, but as a coach you have to limit his minutes especially after an injury! Grow some nuts and pull him out of the game. I hope this does not end his career a few years early...such a shame.

I hope he can get through the injury and come back. Would hate to see if storied career end on a note like that!

You can attribute this to Kobe playing too many minutes. He is an old player to start with in a league that is only getting faster. I feel really bad for the guy as an achilles is commonly career ending.

so you think it is fun to point at an athlete that has given it his all? you may not like kobe but to poke fun at him because of the horrific injury and that he wont reach supposed goals is entertaining to you? i hate paul pierce more than any athlete but wouldnt wish a torn achilles upon him...bit harsh really...but agree that dwight is gone....

I dont believe stating facts is harsh at all, would you rather i sugar coat it for the kobe fans????

Next season Kobe is owed $30 mil in salary and will cost the Lakers $80 mil in luxury tax.

Given this injury what do you do if your the Lakers?

Maybe this?

One more reason the Lakers won't use their amnesty clause on Kobe Bryant next season, from @teamziller: "...Then there's the matter of Bird rights and Kobe's 2014-15 salary. If the Lakers use amnesty on him, they would renounce his Bird rights. So if he doesn't play in 2013-14, the Lakers could not then go above the cap to sign him without using an exception. Assuming the Lakers re-sign Howard after waiving Kobe and do not pawn off Pau for a low-salary package, they would still end up above the tax in the 2014 offseason, meaning that Kobe could sign for only $2.5 million. Kobe Bryant has a whole lot of money. But does anyone think he's going to play for $2.5 million at any point? No. No no no." Sulia
