That's right when many of us first discovered basketball cards and the exotic world of NBA basketball late at night on Channel 10 with Bill Woods and co and the must watch Top Ten Plays of the Week......
So in honor of the old Top Ten - thought I'd give this a crack in true 90s fashion....
*try to remember the voie of the guy who did the top ten plays of the week*
#10
Kicking us off at Number 10 is an officer and a gentleman who made the Spurs wait until the 89 90 season before making waves in the NBA.....
The Admiral David Robinson /100
#9
...at 9 we have a fellow former #1 draft pick whose nickname was sweeter than his game!
The Kandiman Michael Olowokandi /90
#8
...landing with a thud at #8 is the big fella named after the 'big country' he saw on his first plane trip to New York
Bryant 'Big Country' Reeves
...so nice - we bought it thrice!
/3000, /1000 and /150
#7
Blowing up at #7 are two can't miss prospects who hit on blackjack and went 'bust'....
Roy Rogers (5 blocked shots a game as a senior and 14 blocks in one single game!)
Ed O'Bannon - was going to collect this guy instead of Mashburn!
#6
Now it's time to get out our 6 shooters at #6! Bang! Bang! Out go the lights....
Michael Finley
Hersey Hawkins
Jeff Hornacek
#5
Leading the charge into the top 5 are some well renowned floor generals of the 90s...
Terrell Brandon (hard to get an auto of him)
Mookie Blaylock (have you ever seen a Mookie auto before? ....especially with this massive on card goodness!)
..and the Timbug /99!
#4
...at #4 is a big scoring forward formerly known as Employee #8!
Antoine Walker
#3
...from one big scoring forward to another, this 'Big Dog' went #1 overall in 1994!
Glenn Robinson (big on card autographics goodness)
#2
Big scorers, big dogs...how about the big man in the middle with big time D? Pretty hard to navigate the lane with Big Mount Mutombo in the way!
Dikembe Mutombo /128
#1
Taking out our top spot is the man whose personality is bigger than Mount Mutombo and has a bite more way more fierce than the Big Dog's bark...
...it's the Worm!
Dennis Rodman!
Thanks for tuning in see you next week for more NBA action!
Thanks for looking everyone, comments always appreciated - hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane! Nothing major - but happy to relive some memories from back in the day!
