Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

According to a spokesman who was in charge of McGrady's publicity activities in China last season, the Qingdao Doublestar is in touch with McGrady right now. Should both parties come to an agreement, this NBA superstar will appear in the CBA league shortly. 361 Sport

"During his visit to China last year, McGrady was approached by the Guangdong Southern Tigers and Foshan Dragons. Due to various reasons (including family), McGrady rejected Foshan's generous salary package and chose to battle on in the NBA at the veteran's minimum." 361 Sport

This manager also mentioned the main disagreement between both parties being whether McGrady would adjust to the level of competition in the CBA, and whether McGrady would have enough time to recover from injury. "Most questions have been resolved at this point, but with McGrady's body, adjustment to the CBA is still unknown. On an NBA road trip, having a chartered flight allows the athlete enough rest, while the CBA calls for the athlete to rush for a flight, which makes getting rest a harder task. To require an NBA big name to get used to this environment seems almost impossible." 361 Sport

Former NBA players Allen Iverson and Jason Williams have been added to a roster of a team coached by Hall of Famer Tiny Archibald that will play the 2012 Chinese Basketball Association's champion Beijing Ducks on Saturday in Beijing. Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star, and Williams, who played on the Miami Heat’s first NBA championship team in 2006, will play on a roster that includes Damon Jones, Charoy Bentley, Shane Burrell, Zendon Hamilton, J.R. Inman, J. R. Reid and Guy Dupuy. Sporting News

A glorified retirees' pickup game, but boy can J-Will entertain.
Caught one of these exhibitions, and the man really has insane handles!

And Guy Dupuy can sky :D

Don’t be surprised if in typical Spurs’ fashion this season they suddenly announce that they’ve come to an agreement on an extension with Ginobili. His play last year and in the Olympics this summer showed that he clearly has plenty left in the tank, and they have youth on the perimeter now in Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green that allows them to reduce his workload to a reasonable rate. The mutual interest from both sides should be enough to avoid pushing off the inevitable until the summer. HoopsWorld

Still, simply getting back on the court can't be his only goal. If Bogut plays 75 games at a decent level, the trade that brought him to Golden State has pancaked. The Warriors need standout play at center, because a truly impactful Bogut makes power forward David Lee better, because Bogut can set up the several scoring wings for baskets and, most of all, because Bogut can be the force in the middle on defense. A lot needs to spin off him. Solid will not cut it. Bogut also has to bring that attitude that he talks about. "If I can influence other people to step up their up games defensively, that'll be mission accomplished for me," he said. "I think I need to bring the same tenacity and the same defensive mindset I had in Milwaukee, but make it rub off on David Lee and Brandon Rush and Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, that we need to get stops to win games. I think that's more my goal than it is to actually go out there and block five shots a game. I think if we can get everyone on the same page defensively and hold guys accountable -- which guys probably weren't held accountable the last few seasons defensively -- I think we'll be better." some news on my boy JR

He has a good chance, because free-agent signee Ronnie Brewer had knee surgery in early September and won’t start practicing for two weeks. Iman Shumpert, incumbent starter at shooting guard, may not be back until January as he rehabs from ACL surgery. The shooting guard position is Smith’s for the taking. He admitted concern about being pegged as a bench player, perhaps because of a bad-boy rep. “I’d rather start. I’ve been playing [eight] years, coming off the bench,’’ Smith said yesterday. “Whether it stays [that way] or goes, I’m going to be same person I am. I prefer to start. I’d rather be a starter. If not, I understand that.’’ New York Post

“It gets frustrating after a while,’’ Smith said. “People saying, “he’s a sixth man, sixth man, sixth man’’ when you believe you’re a starter. But you have to understand, it’s a team game and have to put individual goals aside.’’ New York Post

In just 14 minutes and 36 seconds of his first preseason game with the Spurs, rookie guard Nando De Colo established himself as a fan favorite Saturday with some of the slickest passing seen at the AT&T Center since Manu Ginobili’s rookie season 10 years ago. He also impressed some teammates. According to Stephen Jackson, De Colo is reminiscent of another fan favorite. “Nando,” Jackson said, “is another Manu Ginobili.” San Antonio Express-News

Doc Rivers on working on Darko's confidence: "“He just needs a chance; he just needs a team that wants him to do his job without asking him to be the No. 2 pick in the draft. We’re just asking him to be part of a group and part of a team. We give him roles on the team. I think he likes the roles that we’ve given him and he didn’t feel any extra pressure. So far so good. We just have to keep him in that frame of mind that he’s in now. "You can see that he gets frustrated easy. So we’re trying to eliminate those episodes. Our thing right now with Darko is to play forward. From being around for a short time, as a coach I can probably feel he’s played his career backwards. He lives in the past a lot and we’re trying to get him to live in the future. I told him (Friday), the only time I’ll take you out is if you make a mistake and make another mistake because you’re thinking about the last mistake. I won’t take you out for making a mistake. So hopefully that works.” Sulia
