The Ashes - 1st Test - Offical Thread

That pitch is flat as! England should have had more than 551 nearing the end of day 2, they should have been way over 600...This test is headed towards a draw!

Dear Matt

England were playing for a draw from the first ball bowled, they know they were embarrased last test and this is their PISS WEAK WARM BEER POMMY DICKHEAD response to getting embarrased by the best team in the world.

My FKN 6 year old niece could get a hundred on that pitch....well i wont go that far ..........but i will say even a second rate pom can get a double century......(cough)

Regards

Shane

yeah well if everyone doens't start batting with common sense and a little of Punters grit this match is gonna have australia following on - Hayden and Marto have thrown their wickets away with stupid shots.... (good bowling mind you). 3/65.

Well there is hundred number 33 for Ponting - 4th all time in the world, 1st overall for Australians...... being nicely supported by "Mr Cricket" Michael Hussey.

Can't believe it when they mentioned that once he scores 100, Ponting averages 180 odd (can't remember the exact final digit hehe).

Def the second greatest Australian batsman of all time.

i guess the ptich wasnt exactly a batting pitch paradise it was a conbination of good batting by england and some wayward bowling by some of our bowlers. this test is gonna be hard for us to win unless we can bat the next 1 1/2 days from now and get a decent lead and try bowling them out.

we need gilly to fire up on this test match right now.

my bet is, they make the follow on total, bat for a little while longer and declare with a 150 odd run deficit, then send the Poms in and hopefully bowl them out cheap and then win it that way..

Aggresive captaincy is what its all about!! :)

if we make the follow-on total we have to bowl next and we have to bat last. we have to get as close as possible to their score and hopefully try playing for a decent total to chase if possible.

Batting last on that pitch wont matter, its not going to break up too much and their only spinner is Ashley Giles anyway, they dont have a Warne

that's the only way we are going to win, if we keep batting till we are bowled out, at best we are going to have a small lead, and eaten up a lot of time in the process

well gilly and clarky is not exactly on the best of form. we still need to get 240 just to equal england score so those 2 have to at least get a half century and a century and hope the tail wags again. i hope gilly does get a ton and get his form back becoz we really need him on this test series.

well well.. The Aussies have 168 to get in 36 overs!!
Possible, but im predicting a draw.
You'd have to open with Gilly and Hayden and bat Langer down the order to save the game if the aussies lose some quick wickets.
It took some time to get that last wicket about 8-10 overs.
cmon aussies

yeah Metallica! We have a chance! My first reaction was let Gilly open! But then I realised we have two pretty good openers. A test ball is more unpredictable than a white ball... so I would put Gilly in at no4. Come on boys Langer has set us off to a flyer! :)

One of the all time great Tests, and one of the most miraculous wins in cricket history!!! I went straight to the ground after work and the atmosphere for those last 20 overs was amazing!!! The ashes are ours, no stopping us now :D

did anyone go out on a limb and put some money on the Aussies this morning??

Does anyone know what they started the day at??

I cost myself $900 on not betting on it. A work mate offered myself and my boss 10:1 odds on $100 min for an Aussie win. Couldn't afford to part with the $100 if it ended in a draw, so didn't take it up, but my boss did, so it will be interesting to see if he pays up.

Ive seen some pretty amazing stuff on the sporting field over the years,
but that whole day was almost unfathomable, the whole Australian side was energized, and honestly the Englishmen, like they did at the Gabba, were playing for the draw from the 1st ball...

Australia, in the words of Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, "eats pieces of shit like that for breakfast"... it remains to be seen if the English have a snappy comeback like Happy did... hopefully they do...

SENBLOODYSENSATIONAL WIN in the Adelaide Test

Well done Aussies !

Yeah I know it's late but better than never :D
