Low Numbered Cards??

I had this conversation with Nathan the other day. What are your views on low numbered cards?

Personally. They don't float my boat. If the numbers are limited to 100. And I am lucky enough to own one of those 100 - I'm wrapped!!

Anyway. Just after your views.

Im with you Mirren, I really dont see the difference in having a cards numbered 2 or 222.

I guess however if your just a team collector and you dont have heaps of cards out there to collect the chase of a low numbered card would be appealing.

I'm the same. The number doesn't bother me. It would be nice to have their jersey number but I wouldn't go chasing it.

As a non NRL collector, this was one thing I found recently that really surprised me! When I ran a comp and we included some NRL/AFL cards in the mix, someone told me that the lower the number, the higher esteem it is held in?? Very odd IMO.

And apparently they use the same number throughout a case too? Is that right?

In NBA, there are some people that make a big deal about the first and last of a print run, but that is no biggie to me either!

I know this is NRL, but I'll answer it with an overall perspective on collecting cards, rather than brands, etc.

For me, I love numbered cards. Whilst it's true that every card produced is a limited print (even 1,000,000 cards are limited print), I think the idea of showing the actual print run of a specific card is great. Sure, a lot of us over-look the numbering, etc, but in reality let's pick a card #/10. There can only be ten people in the world who can ever own that card at any one time (unless they move it on, I mean).

To me, that's an honor in some aspect, as being a very limited number, and I'm one of the people who can own that card.

Now let's take a 1/1, whilst the production of 1/1s these days is pretty high (in that every man and his dog have a hand full of them), you're still the ONLY person in the world with that specific card! It's pretty cool when you think about it (I believe).

As Adam mentioned, there's a lot of people who also put added value in the first card (01/25) and the last card (25/25) and also the player's particular jersey number (Jordan 23/100). I personally don't hold any more value in it, but I do appreciate the Jersey Numbered stuff.

Select do seem to be running same numbers throughout a case.

Whilst it doesn't really phase me about numbers, I can assure you I would rather seller a Lockyer Signature #6 (jersey number) than one numbered #43 as it would easily fetch $200-$500 more as it definitelymeans something to some people.

Anything under 10 or jersey nubered seems to attract a premium price.

I would say the look of the signature is more importanat....and again hence the lower numbered signature cards are normally superior as by the time the player gets to 238 signatures it is often scribble........

Low # is not that important to me but if i have a choice of low Vs high number, I'll always take the lower number. The only exception I have with this is smudged or not clear sig, aswell as card damage

Low numbers certainly draw a higher price, some may remember i pulled a #002 Trent Merrin Top Prospect from a box of 2011 Strike, it sold on eBay for $160. "Unimportant" numbers might fetch $40.

This could also be testament to the insanity of Dragons collectors.

Nah, they mean nothing to me at all ... the only reason I'm glad to have a low number is because it will sell for more ... but on the other hand, I'm never going to sell my Knights cards, so what do I care?

Don't mean i thing to me. I'm chasing the player not the number on the card. If i score a lower number or higher number it's does'nt matter

No interest here in low number sig's. I try to get as much of any set as I can now, used to sell all except 'dogs inserts. If I can get a high number cheaper then I've saved more for the next one. Just out of interest I checked back through my sets and I've only got one under 10 - Strike Churchill Slater #004. Only other of interest is 2009 Classic Uate #300/300. Didn't know & didn't really care.

As a team collector to me its all about putting my Sharks PC above any others with low numbers.
Jersey numbered though is awesome and unappreciated by many Australian collectors. They will catch on soon enough though.

You dont only have low numbered sharks though do you?.. I think jersey number is cool.. But I don't have any!!

Nah i will take most recognized jersey numbers, They hardly ever come up though. I would pay much more for a #013 Gallen case card than #002. I want them both though.
