To say it simply, thank you Ricky for all you have done for Cricket. The little things will never be forgotten... from having a giggle on the field with your team mates through to having the expectation of the entire country on your back.... Get out there in Perth and have some fun... tackle it like you always have... giving it 100% and not scared to look defeat or adversity in the face !!

You will go down as one of our greatest players and captains and deserve all accolades that come your way.

I guarantee one thing, he wont stop giving to this great game !!

Very sad news. As a fellow Tasmanian i love Ricky, has to be up there as one of the all time greats, and im not just talking about Aussie all time greats, im talking about world sport.
Thanks Ricky

Agree 100%. Ponting would have to be one of the greatest cricketers Australia has ever produced, and his talent and more importantly his character will be sorely missed by the Aussie team. Hopefully they all lift that little bit more to give Ricky the winning send off his career warrants.

Might have to somehow find a way to get down to WACA to give Ricky the standing ovation that he deserves.

Sad day for not only Australia cricket but world cricket. His record speaks for itself and Pups reaction in the press conference just shows how much this man is respected. I hope we can send him out like the true champion he is by winning on Perth reclaiming number 1!!

What a great player and a great career, well done on your amazing contribution to the sport. But it was time to go and i'm glad he has recognised that.

what a great player, good to see him go out on his own accord,Pity we wont get to see him one last time at the home of cricket "MCG".He has given me and so many other people same great moments whether batting or fielding, whether that pull shot or that slips catch or that run out, well done to Ricky Ponting and all the best in your retirement.cheers Craig

would have been nice to see him play the back to back ashes series as a batsman as he has done well against them in the past, that would be a perfect ending to a career like his.

However I sense selectors and media were circling like sharks to get him of the team.

Enter Ricky Ponting for the very last time :(
The guard of honour was a very nice jesture from the South Afiricans

Talk about being overwhelemed in his last innings. the guard of honor would have added to that.

Shame he went for that shot but a great career.

I can proudly say to my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that I saw Ricky Thomas Ponting bowl his last over in international cricket! :P

(And then I had to go to school today...)
