Heard and interesting podcast the other day with Sekou and Rick Fox etc about the Hall of Fame. What are good criteria for getting in to the Basketball Hall of Fame do you think?

I can only see 'retired 5 years' as a listed requirement. Maybe they should be more transparent?

They debated people like TMac, Vince Carter, Christian Laettner etc as it is Basketball HOF not just NBA, and also that All Star selections shouldn't be a factor.

You've got referees, teams, contributors inducted but only talking about players ATM.

So, what are good stats to be considered worthy? Who should get in but you think may not?

I personally think they need to make it harder to get in, all the players you said do not deserve to get in at all, their was even talk of chris webber going in. Think you should have to do more than have two or 3 good years to get in

Vince I think should be and prob has strongest case of those mentioned. He'll likely finish top 100 all-time in games played, 25000 points and then his contribution to the league with dunking.

Arvydas Sabonis is in there for his International stats and contributions.

What about Larry Johnson? Alonzo Mourning?

Billups at least has a title. Also a Finals MVP and inaugural teammate of the year award winner.
Crazy if Mullin is in and not Billups. Mullin's looks like a combination of College excellence and NBA though.

Barry has 25, 279 career points.
that would be his dad Rick Barry. who is in the HOF

iverson should be a 1st ballot since he has season MVP

if dominque wilkins, chris mullin etc. are HOFs, VC should be in easy

t-mac defintely a fringe, but should be in too if mullin can get in

is Yao a fringe HOF? zo maybe, but its pretty watered down if LJ makes it

As was said earlier, the HOF is based on all-over basketball performance - college/international as well as pro. That being said, I feel two more names should be added - Detlef Schrempf (if he's not already in) for his contributions not only to the nba but also to world basketball and Jalen Rose. Rose, after all, is the second leading scorer in Michigan history and he had a solid career as pro - he just played at the wrong time.

Rob horry, oh hell no, if they start letting players who hit a big shot now and then in the why even have a hof, it would be a joke, as for mullin, it could be said he prob should not be in their, but he was also an member of the dream team, and would of had an average of over 20ppg if he hanged it up a couple of years earlyier

I remember when Yao Ming retired there was lots of debate as to whether he should make it in as a player notwithstanding what he has already achieved in respect of 'internationalising' the game...

Played for 8 seasons at basically 20, 10 and 2.... with plenty of injuries over those last 4 or 5 seasons.

Robert Horry & LJ - gawd no - landing on contending teams and a very clever Converse shoe campaign shouldn't count! Rick Barry, Iverson, Mullin, VC - hellz yes! T-Mac and Yao are fringe but I'd say yes - T-Mac in full flight lead the league in scoring a couple times...

Maybe that's why they don't have exact criteria released to the public, because it would be too complex, to bit have someone in with 7 chips, regardless of their contribution, would be harder to have sub criteria, like it's not even now you need at least 1 championship!

Regular season MVP's should automatically get in?
Finals MVP should be straight in?
Multiple scoring title winners go straight in?
What's should be the point minimum? 15000?
